Systems built for environments where auditability, resilience and regulatory reporting are the design constraints.
Solution
We modernise business-critical applications in place — reducing risk, cost and change-lead-time without a big-bang rewrite that stops the organisation for a year.
“A critical system still works, but it is expensive to change, hard to hire for, and increasingly a security concern.”
01Overview
Legacy systems are rarely replaced because they stopped working. They are replaced because the cost of changing them exceeded the value of changing them, and because the people who understood them retired.
The default proposal is a rewrite. It is also the option with the worst track record: an eighteen-month project that must reach feature parity with a system nobody fully documented, during which the business cannot change either version.
We use incremental replacement instead. Put a stable interface in front of the legacy system, move one capability at a time behind it, and route traffic gradually. The old system shrinks until it can be switched off — with no weekend cutover and a rollback available at every step.
02The problem
Small modifications take months because impact cannot be predicted and there are no tests to catch regressions.
One or two people understand the system, and the documentation is the code itself.
Unsupported runtimes and dependencies that can no longer be patched.
No usable interface, so every connection is a bespoke extract that becomes another dependency.
03The approach
What the system actually does today, which parts carry business value, and what is dead code nobody calls.
A stable API in front of the legacy system so consumers stop coupling directly to its internals.
Capability moved behind the interface one domain at a time, highest-risk first, each fully tested.
Gradual routing with parallel-run reconciliation, and a rollback path retained at every stage.
The legacy system is retired only once nothing calls it — verified by traffic, not by assumption.
